Currently Rostov State University of communications provides training in 31 specialties of higher vocational education and in 17 specialties of secondary vocational education and 12 working professions (License - A No. 282226 dated 07.05.2008, certificate of state accreditation - AA No. 001359 dated 06.23.2008).

At 8 faculties, in International Institute entrepreneurship and law RGUPS, more than 22,000 students are studying in the branches of the university in full-time and part-time forms of study for subsequent work in organizations and institutions railway transport, transport construction, legal, financial and economic, law enforcement and banking structures, in municipal and state bodies, on manufacturing enterprises and in design, engineering and research organizations. Educational and industrial practice is organized at the enterprises of Russia and abroad.

Persons with higher or relevant secondary vocational education can study full-time and part-time forms of study with a reduced period of study (from 3 to 4.5 years) in the relevant specialties under individual training programs (the possibility of entering a university for studying under a reduced program remains until August 31, 2009).

High level of education and scientific work RGUPS team is recognized both in Russia and abroad. Every year RGUPS holds a set of events dedicated to the victory in the Great Patriotic War, meetings of the literary drawing room "Rostov and Rostovites" are held every month. RSTU is one of the leading universities in the development of mass sports movement in the Rostov region. Among its graduates there are Olympic champions, holders of Russian cups in various sports. Sports teams of the university take first place in the team standings among the universities of the Rostov region.

University students take an active part in working life. Student teams of conductors of passenger cars, assistant locomotive drivers have been formed, students of the Faculty of Humanities work as educators in children's health camps as part of a pedagogical team. The university entered the new millennium with a renewed look. In 1999, in the year of the 70th anniversary of RSTU, the educational buildings were reconstructed, the laboratory base and the campus were updated. A new library has been built. Students full-time who successfully study in the field, financed from the federal budget, are paid a scholarship. There are special scholarships for the most talented students. Needy students are paid a social stipend.

For the duration of their studies, all full-time students are granted a deferment from conscription for military service in the ranks of the Armed Forces Russian Federation(if it is provided to a citizen for the first time).

The structure of the university includes the Military Faculty, where students can receive a military rank (at the same time, according to the current legislation, they are not subject to conscription for military service after graduation).

A military training center has also been created on the basis of the university, which conducts training of officers for military purposes at the expense of the federal budget. military service under the contract. Students studying at the RGUPS military training center have a unique opportunity to simultaneously receive a civilian and military registration specialty. All students studying at the military training center receive additional scholarships in the amount of 1,500 to 3,500 rubles; non-resident students are provided with a hostel.

RSTU actively develops international relations. The international cooperation is considered today as one of the most important factors in improving the quality of education at the university, creating conditions for the development of professional qualities of future specialists: linguistic internships for RSTU students in France, Germany, Spain, the Czech Republic, Slovakia and other countries have become traditional, a program for the exchange of teachers and graduate students with foreign partner universities, currently special attention is paid to the implementation of joint educational projects with a number of leading educational institutions France (Academy of Versailles, Sorbonne, University of Le Mans, etc.), which will allow RSTU students to study abroad and receive, in addition to the Russian diploma, a certificate of international education.

University students are very interested in projects implemented jointly with Siemens (professional internships in Germany, joint Scientific research), the Le Mans Economic Development Agency, France (language and professional internships on the basis of transport enterprises, the tourism sector), embassies and international cultural and educational organizations (various festivals and competitions, the winners of which - RSTU students - become owners of international grants and receive opportunities for internships abroad).

Students, graduate students, teachers of RSTU are active participants in the largest international scientific conferences, educational and scientific and technical exhibitions, symposiums (for example, the international transport exhibition "Innotrans" in Berlin (Germany), international transport and educational forums in Beijing (China) ), Frankfurt (Germany), Ostrava (Czech Republic), etc.).
