What's new in 2019?
- There are no changes in the structure and content of KIM.
- In task 40 of the "Writing" section, the wording and evaluation criteria became clearer. Now the graduate will have to choose one of two topics for writing a detailed reasoning text and express his point of view.

When familiarizing yourself with the demonstration version of the USE 2019 control measuring materials, it should be borne in mind that the tasks included in it do not reflect all the content issues that will be checked using the KIM options in 2019.

Changes in the USE 2019 in foreign languages:
There are no changes in the structure and content of KIM.The criteria for evaluating the performance of task 40 of the "Writing" section in the written part of the exam, as well as the wording of task 40, in which the exam participant is offered a choice of two topics of a detailed written statement with elements of reasoning "My opinion", have been clarified.
The work consists of four sections: listening, reading, grammar and vocabulary, writing.
Section 1 (“Listening”) contains 9 tasks. The recommended time to complete the tasks in section 1 is 30 minutes.
Section 2 ("Reading") contains 9 tasks. The recommended time to complete the tasks in section 2 is 30 minutes.
Unit 3 ("Grammar and Vocabulary") contains 20 tasks. The recommended time to complete the tasks in Section 3 is 40 minutes.
Section 4 ("Letter") consists of 2 tasks. The recommended time to complete the tasks in this section of the work is 80 minutes.
Purpose demo version is to enable any USE participant and the general public to get an idea of the structure of future KIM, the number of tasks, their form and level of complexity. The given criteria for evaluating the performance of tasks with a detailed answer, included in this option, give an idea of the requirements for the completeness and correctness of writing a detailed answer.
This information will allow graduates to develop a strategy for preparing for the exam.
The examination paper in English consists of four sections ("Listening", "Reading", "Grammar and Vocabulary", "Writing"), including 40 tasks.
You have 3 hours (ISO minutes) to complete the exam paper.
Answers to tasks 3-9, 12-18 and 32-38 are written according to the pattern below in the form of one digit, which corresponds to the number of the correct answer. Write this figure in the answer field in the text of the work, and then transfer it to the answer sheet No. 1.
Section 4 (“Writing”) consists of 2 tasks (39 and 40) and is a short written work (writing a personal letter and a written statement with elements of reasoning). In the answer sheet No. 2, indicate the number of the task and write down the answer to it.
All USE forms are filled in with bright black ink. You can use a gel or capillary pen.
When completing assignments, you can use a draft. Entries in the draft, as well as in the text of the control measuring materials, are not taken into account when evaluating the work.
Points received by you for completed tasks are summed up. Try to complete as many tasks as possible and collect the largest number of bards.
After completing the work, check that the answer to each task in the answer sheets No. 1 and No. 2 is recorded under the correct number.

Control measuring materials allow you to establish the level of development by graduates of the Federal component of the state educational standard basic general and secondary (complete) general education.
The results of the unified state exam in a foreign language are generally recognized educational institutions, in which educational programs of secondary (complete) general education are implemented, as the results of state (final) certification, and educational institutions of secondary vocational education and educational institutions of higher professional education - as the results of entrance examinations in a foreign language.

3. Approaches to the selection of content, the development of the structure of the KIM USE
The purpose of the unified state exam in a foreign language is to determine the level of foreign language communicative competence of the examinee. The main attention is paid to speech competence, i.e. communication skills in different types of speech activity: listening, reading, writing, as well as language competence, i.e. language knowledge and skills. Sociocultural knowledge and skills are tested indirectly in the sections "Listening", "Reading" and are one of the objects of measurement in the section "Writing"; compensatory skills are checked indirectly in the "Writing" section.
Consequently, KIM USE in foreign languages contains sections "Listening", "Reading", "Grammar and Vocabulary" and "Writing". At the same time, it should be borne in mind that, although the sections “Listening”, “Reading” and “Writing” have skills in the corresponding types of speech activity as objects of control, these skills are provided with the necessary level of development of the language competence of the examinees. Successful fulfillment of tasks for the control of receptive types of speech activity is ensured by knowledge of lexical units, morphological forms and syntactic constructions and skills of their recognition/recognition. The tasks of the "Writing" section require from the examinee, in addition to this knowledge, the skills of operating with lexical units and grammatical structures in a communicatively meaningful context. Spelling skills are the object of control in tasks B4-B16 of the "Grammar and Vocabulary" section, as well as tasks C1, C2 of the "Writing" section.
4. The structure of KIM USE
The examination paper contains the sections "Listening", "Reading", "Grammar and Vocabulary" and "Writing".
To differentiate examinees by levels of foreign language proficiency within the limits formulated in the Federal component state standard general education in foreign languages, in all sections, along with tasks of the basic level, tasks of higher levels of complexity are included.
The level of difficulty of tasks is determined by the levels of complexity of the language material and the skills being tested, as well as the type of task.
The work on a foreign language includes 28 tasks with a choice of answers from three or four proposed, 16 tasks of an open type with a short answer, including tasks for establishing correspondence, and 2 tasks of an open type with a detailed answer.
Basic, advanced and high levels of difficulty of the USE tasks correlate with the levels of foreign language proficiency defined in the documents of the Council of Europe 1 as follows:
- Basic level - A2+ 2
- Advanced level - B1
- High level - B2

2 Since the entire possible range of levels of foreign language proficiency is represented in the document of the Council of Europe by only six levels, it is obvious that certain sublevels can be distinguished within each of them. A graduate in the exam can score a maximum of 100 points. The minimum score to pass the exam is 22 points.

The structure of the exam in English 2018
The audition lasts 30 minutes and consists of three parts. The first two parts are the first and second tasks, respectively, and the third part is tasks No. 3-9 (out of a total list of 40 tasks).

Reading
- if you are not familiar with the topic mentioned in the text, do not worry, because in order to find answers in the text, you do not need special knowledge;
- if you are given tasks in which you need to insert words or phrases instead of gaps, read the sentence before and after the gaps, try to guess what exactly is missing;
- do not get hung up on any one issue, you can always return to it, but for now take care of others;
- you always need to read the entire text to understand what the meaning is;
- if you don't know the answer to a question, try to guess it;
- preparing for the exam, read as many texts of different styles as possible.
Reading lasts 30 minutes and consists of 3 parts (9 tasks). For each part, we advise you to spend no more than 10 minutes to meet the allotted half an hour. Task 1: Given 7 short texts (3-6 sentences each) and 8 headings. You need to read the texts and choose the appropriate heading for each of them. In this case, 1 heading will be superfluous. Written task
- it is worth writing about the same thing only in different words;
- do not deviate from the topic;
- do not use the same vocabulary as in the assignment. Choose synonyms for words;
- keep track of time;
- do not write more than necessary, because this may indicate that you have written too much;
- remember that you need to take the time to re-read what you have written and, if necessary, correct the errors found.
The graduate is given 80 minutes to write and check 2 written papers. Task 1: Given the text of a short letter from a friend asking questions. The student needs to read it and write a response letter: answer the friend's questions and ask questions to him. Recommended run time: no more than 20 minutes. Volume: 100-140 words. Maximum points: 6 points.
A letter to a friend is written in an informal style. The structure of this work is as follows:
1. We make out the "cap"
In the upper right corner we write the address: on the top line we indicate the city, below it - the country of residence. It is not necessary to write the street and house number: this can be regarded as the disclosure of confidential information, even if the address is fictitious.
After the address, skip 1 line and write the date of writing the letter in the same upper right corner. Further, as usual, on the left we write an informal appeal: Dear Tom / Jim (name will be given in the task). Hello is not allowed here.
After the appeal, put a comma and continue to write the text of the letter from a new line.
2. Text of the letter
We start writing each paragraph with a red line. In the first paragraph, you need to thank your friend for the letter you received (Thanks a lot for your last letter) and apologize that you did not write earlier (Sorry I haven’t been in touch for so long).
You can also mention some fact from the received letter. What follows is the body of the letter, including the second and third paragraphs. In the second, you write answers to all the questions asked of you, in the third, you ask your questions to a friend.
In the fourth paragraph, you need to sum up - say that you are finishing the letter (I've got to go now! It's time for my favorite TV show), and offer to keep in touch (Take care and keep in touch!).
3. End of letter
At the end, you need to write a final cliché phrase, which is always followed by a comma: All the best, Best wishes, etc. On the next line, under this phrase, you indicate your name.
Task 2: A statement (usually debatable) is given.
The graduate writes an essay in which he discusses this topic, expresses his point of view, and also gives the opposite opinion and explains why he does not agree with it.
The essay is written in a neutral style and consists of 5 paragraphs:
- Introduction: we formulate the topic-problem and immediately indicate that there are two opposing points of view.
- Your opinion: we express our point of view (one) on this issue and give 2-3 arguments that confirm it.
- Contrasting opinions: we write 1-2 opposite points of view and give arguments in favor of their existence.
- We express disagreement: we explain why we do not agree with the above points of view, and we give arguments in defense of our own opinion. However, they should not repeat the arguments from paragraph 2.
- Conclusion: we draw a conclusion on this topic, indicate that there are different points of view, and finally confirm our point of view.
Vocabulary and grammar
- if you need to insert a word, try to determine in what number and in what form it should be;
- if you do not know the correct answer, do not leave gaps anyway, look for the answer by the opposite method;
- check spelling.
This section of the USE in English 2018 tests the knowledge of grammatical structures and vocabulary of the graduate. The student is given 40 minutes to complete it. Let's see what the student has to do.
Task 1: Given a text in which 7 words are missing. To the right of the text are the words that need to be grammatically transformed (for example, put the verb at the right time) and inserted in the gap. Recommended run time: no more than 12 minutes. Maximum points: 7 points.
Task 2: Given a text with 6 gaps. On the right are the words that need to be transformed both lexically and grammatically - to form a single-root word that matches the meaning of the text. Recommended run time: no more than 15 minutes. Maximum points: 6 points.
Task 3: Given a text with 7 gaps. You need to choose for each of them 1 correct answer out of the four proposed. Recommended run time: no more than 12 minutes. Maximum points: 7 points.
Oral speech
The oral part of the exam is the shortest, taking only 15 minutes. The graduate needs to have time to complete as many as 4 tasks, for which you can get a maximum of 20 points. The student submits assignments in front of the computer, his answers are recorded using a headset, and the countdown is shown on the screen. At the same time, there is an organizer in the audience who monitors the course of the exam.
Task 1: The text of a popular science character is displayed on the screen. In 1.5 minutes you need to prepare and in the next 1.5 minutes expressively read it aloud. Run time: no more than 3 minutes. Maximum points: 1 point.
Task 2: An advertisement is proposed, for which 5 direct questions based on keywords must be composed. 1.5 minutes are allotted for preparation, then each question must be formulated within 20 seconds. Run time: about 3 minutes. Maximum points: 5 points.
Task 3: Show 3 photos. You need to choose 1 and describe it according to the plan proposed right there in the task. Run time: about 3.5 minutes. Maximum points: 7 points.
Task 4: Given 2 pictures. It is necessary to compare them, describe similarities and differences, explain why the chosen topic is close to the graduate. Run time: about 3.5 minutes. Maximum points: 7 points.
This section was not in the USE 2010, but it is still worth knowing the tips for this part.
- if the task is not clear to you, ask the examiner about what is unclear;
- use as many words as possible, show your vocabulary;
- you must understand that you are required to express your personal opinion, and not discuss the topic with professionalism;
- you may forget a word, in which case you don’t need to get lost, you can replace it with another word .;
- you should be aware that this section is not intended for you to demonstrate that you can build sentences correctly. You need to show communication skills.

USE in English: Grammar
Many graduates who plan to take in 2018 USE year in English, have a huge number of questions related to scores, tasks, and time to complete them.
The USE in English will be a final school exam, the writing of which is available to everyone. It is the USE indicators that will act as a state exam when entering a university. At the moment, it is not necessary to pass it, but if after graduation you want to enter a specialized university, then you will have to pass it.
In terms of its structure, the USE in English is very similar to the international FCE exam, which is held in most European countries, to determine the level of formation of the knowledge base in the subject. For this passage, you must get the mark Upper-Intermediate (above average), which is not an easy task.
It is recommended to start preparing for the exam from the beginning of the 10th grade. Only in this way, gradually repeating all the material covered, the student will be able to acquire the knowledge in which there was a gap, and fully prepare for the exam in English in 2018. Of course, this process may take less time, but only if the student has a high level of knowledge, and is constantly trying to achieve perfection.
The exam consists of two parts: oral and written, which are held on different days. First, graduates of 2017-2018 take a written block, which includes listening, reading, writing, speaking, as well as checking grammar and vocabulary. In total, you need to do 40 tasks, in 3 hours. 80 is the maximum score you can get.
The second block - oral - is given at the request of the student, and is aimed at improving the already finished result. It takes only 15 minutes to complete it, during which you need to solve 4 additional tasks. Thus, you can improve your English score by 20 points.
Any teacher will insist on attending both parts of the exam, because even if the second part fails, the student will not worsen his result for the written block, but he will have a chance to improve it.
There will be no changes in the exam in English in 2018 so there is no reason to worry.

How is the exam
The USE in English has a very specific structure, KIM makes it possible to quickly check the level of knowledge and skills in the main parameters. Exam structure:
- Listening includes 3 audio fragments, which are connected into one tape. By turning it on, the teacher does not have the right to pause or stop. There is a short pause between the fragments, during which the students must write the correct answers on the form.
- Reading. Half an hour is allotted for this section, and 9 tasks. Among the main ones is to read small texts, and combine them with suitable names, of which there will be 1 more.
Tip: most often it is in the first sentence that is displayed main point test text, and then only clarifying details and trifles that are not useful are given. As for the questions on the meaning of the text read, they go in the same order as the chronology of the story. This can also be tracked in the FIPI tasks, which are freely available on the Internet. - Vocabulary and grammar are designed to assess the number of learned words, and the ability to make the correct constructions from them, using the right tense and preposition.
Among the main tasks may be: enter right word, or represent it at a certain time, adding an ending, or raising it to the desired form. - The written part consists of two tasks, for which 80 minutes are provided. In the first, a letter is given from a friend with a series of questions to which the student must write an answer.
The second task is writing an essay in English. A controversial judgment is given as a topic, and the student must express an opinion on this matter and explain his point of view. Only the full disclosure of his thoughts and feelings may give the highest score. We advise you not to deviate from the stated size of the presentation of 200-250 characters. The demo version will help to practice writing, with the help of which the preparation will be excellent. You can also download a collection of essays, in which you will find many examples of correctly written works. - Oral speech. The check takes place in front of the computer screen, using a headset. The monitor shows the countdown, in general, 15 minutes are given for 4 tasks.
Having completed all the blocks, the student can get a maximum score when passing the unified state exam. For each individual task, the student in the class receives certain points, which are then summed up.
The minimum passing score this year is 22, and the maximum is 100. After receiving the result, according to certain new criteria, it is transferred to the standard five-point system, which is more familiar:
- A score of 0-21 corresponds to a score of 2, and means that the test in the subject has failed.
- 22-58 points is a score of 3.
- 59-83 points means a good result, and a score of 4.
- Scored 84-100 points means that you passed the exam perfectly, grade 5.
Usually, the results can be known within 14 days after the delivery, when both blocks are handed over. But, in some cases, estimates can be found out after 12 days. To do this, you need to visit the official website and find your last name. The mandatory issuance of paper certificates has been abolished, and now they can be viewed exclusively on the Internet.
